It has been a dream of my husband and I to create a space for families to feel comfortable camping, particularly urban families. Partly to teach parenting skills in a non-threatening and non-traditional way, but to also help families learn how to travel on a budget. Camping provides so many great experiences, many that you can do locally, and many on a tight budget.
I grew up going camping with my family (parents and brothers) and with the girl scouts. As a single parent, I took my son camping with groups of families, and also sent him with his schools. I felt comfortable letting him go away with the schools because I knew what camping was like, and I had taken him, so he had those experiences as well. My husband also took his daughters camping and they all loved it. Once together in our blended family, it was only natural that we wanted to go camping! And that we did. SO MUCH FUN! Well last year for my birthday, I wanted to change it up, and do something different. So, I decided to rent an RV and host a weekend “glamping” experience for my friends at Dockweiler State Beach & RV Park (https://beaches.lacounty.gov/dockweiler-beach/). It was local so family and friends could come. I encouraged all to rent their own RVs and stay the weekend with me, and a couple did! I had a blast. I also had lots of people come by to celebrate with me, I think many were just curious to see what RVs really looked like in “real-life”. What was this “glamping” thing I was talking about??

This weekend was a LOT of work, since I was HOSTING the entire event, but it was so cool to see everyone enjoy themselves. One thing this did for my husband and I, was really solidify our desire to camp more, whether with a tent or RV, and we want to bring as many people along as possible.
California provides a great background for this…I mean you can pretty much camp all year in most of the state. My birthday is in November, and we had no problem being by the beach. We have decided with all certainty, that we will be starting a RV rental company. Along with that, I have added RV and camping travel planning to the list of services Cook Travel Planning provides. I would love to assist people with creating a memorable and life changing road trip, anywhere they want to go! Honestly, with a RV even the pickiest most finicky person so could “glamp” by sleeping inside the RV lol. Plus most RVs are fully contained and have kitchens and bathrooms.

There are more dreams that go along with the RV rental biz and travel planning…but we have to hash those out more before we share…but stay tuned because it will be BIG. Nothing would bring me more joy than sharing the joy of the outdoors with other families, while being with MY family! XOXO

Just like there are camping sites for every type of outdoor personality, there are RVs to match. What fun to try different different types with no committment, just like going to different types of hotels.
I look forward to sharing this new journey with you all…and hopefully encourage you to travel!
